SISTER SAILORS AND SONS OF SAG HARBOR
A continuation of the previous show, Captains, Mates, and Widows, Sister Sailors & Sons of Sag Harbor is a collection of paintings by artist Sabina Streeter, inspired by the lives and personae of the great whaling era.
The collection features a poetic interpretation of iconic Sag Harbor characters such as the great mariner Captain Hand VI (war hero and inspiration for the James Fennimore Cooper character "Natty Bumpo"), Minard Lafever (architect of The Sag Harbor Whaler's Church), Benjamin Hunting II (celebrated captain and builder of The Whaling Museum), as well as the various women who accompanied their husbands on their voyages to sea.
The show contains an original soundtrack by Carlos Lama as well as text and biographies highlighting the historical background. Sister Sailors & Sons of Sag Harbor opened on August 27th, 2015 at The Sag Harbor Whaling Museum.
